Thanks to a post by JamesB I discovered adding User Call Tips was possible. This script does it for you so you can add ToolTips for functions that are not included with AutoIt, and could even be for your own functions in the script you are working on. The toolTips can be updated or removed at any time.

Updates are shown as comments at start of script.

; AddCallTips.au3

;automates adding User Call Tips to SciTE. See SciTE help for User Call Tips.
  Const $version = "V1.5"
;version changes
;1.5 Allowed for having functions in UDF which must not be given Call Tips. Useful for internal functions.
;1.4 rewote functions UpdateCallTips and replaceUCT
;1.31 Removed \V at start of search patter for StringREgExpr/Replace
;1.3 Improved matching function names so if parameters have been changed update still works etc.
;1.2 Added warnings for invalid files, too few comment chars and no Key Word for comments.
;   Rearranged things a bit to improve readabilty. Simplified some things.
;1.1 change default folder to last folder used for fileopendialog {Bowmore}
;   made folder for backups and added numbered backups

;next line only used when developing the script

Thanks to a post by JamesB I discovered adding User Call Tips was possible. This script does it for you.

Thanks Martin for another very useful and well written utility that makes coding AutoIt even more enjoyable. I had been using user call tips previously but it was a bit of a chore remembering to add the relevent infromation to the file for my personal UDF libraries This makes it so simle.

One very minor suggestion, seeing as you are already using an ini file, it would enhance the user experience if the folder of the previously processed was saved after each file is processed and used as the initial folder for FileOpenDialog(). I think most users would keep the custom UDF in a the same folder.

Thanks for your comments Bowmore.

I have applied your suggestion, I had made it open in the script folder but your idea is more sensible.

I also improved the backing up bit and added a version ref in the title bar.

Updated first post so that you can have a keyword in the UDF comments which excludes the function from the list of call tips. This might be useful if you have internal functions for example for which you do not want call tips.

Hi,

Any chance you could explain a bit about how to use this please?

Here's what I'm trying:

1. Compile your script to an exe, and run it

2. Press "Browse" and navigate to the script I'm working on, which includes the following:

#cs
Description: Run Bookmarks
Post a URL details to the various bookmarking sites
#ce
func runBookmark($bookmarkDetails)
    ; Do stuff
endfunc

3. Press "Apply the above changes.... " button

I get the response:

"No User Call Tips were added!

No call tips removed"

Any ideas?

Regards,

Andy
