How to post code on the forum

To post code on the forum, please use the following procedure:

Click the Code button on the editor toolbar.

Select the code type (for most people this will either be AutoIt or Plain Text - AutoIt is the default)

Paste or type your code and then click OK.

Alternatively, you can put the editor into bbcode mode and use the following tags:

[code=autoit:0]

Registration Email Corrupted

A couple of members recently have found that both of the links in their registration emails were corrupted. Jon has checked that we are not causing this at our end - and the majority of registrations are happening without problem. We suspect it is a problem with the email provider at the user's end - but there is no common link (that we can find) between those who have had the problem so far.

However, if the links in your registration email are corrupted it is easy to fix it yourself. In both cases so far the links appeared in this form:

http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=global§ion=register&do=auto_validate&uid=#####&aid=.......

The "global§ion" part should read "global&section".

If you do have corrupted links, please post in this thread when you have registered so that we can see if the problem is becoming more prevalent. But please do not bother to tell us that the links were not corrupted in your case - we track registrations and can tell when they were successful.

M23

Edit: Just in case you find that the 2 sections look identical because you suffer from the same problem - here they are with an added underscore which you will obviously need to remove:

"global_§ion" should read "global_&section".

Removing New Member Post Limitation

New members are automatically limited to 5 posts in the first 24 hours for obvious reasons. But we are always ready to lift this restriction if the member appears reasonable and gets involved in a lengthy dialogue.

However, we cannot read every thread, so be proactive and let us know if you think someone (or of course yourself) is likely to bump up against the limit. Just report the thread and mention that you feel the limit should be removed - we will take a look at the thread and, if we agree, do the necessary magic behind the scenes.

M23

Blocking System

<del class='bbc'>In the next 24-hours we will be rolling</del> We have rolled out a new site-wide system for blocking users. Users who are blocked will be sent to a read-only version of the website which you can find here. There are several reasons we are doing this. This page explains some of it.

First we are going to be blocking known spammers. This will affect some of you. It already has because the system was temporarily rolled into place and a few of you were blocked. We know it will affect some of you and that is why the read-only site exists. It would have been a lot easier if we hadn't made a read-only site and just left an error page for those of you who are blocked. If you are accidentally blocked please do not be upset. We will work with you as this page explains.

We are trying to make this a better place. Keeping spammers out is one part of that. The other part is keeping malicious users out. That's where the Tor, public proxy and manual blocks come in. Tor and public proxies make it way too easy for a user we don't want to come back time and time again. It's happened numerous times already. It makes our lives much easier if we just out-right block all users using those tools. If those tools are the only way you can access this site (for example, you are using it to evade a work or school block on our site) then you can still continue to use them to access the read-only mirror.

So what can you do on the read-only mirror? Well, read. That's about it. You can download files and browse the forum or issue tracker. If your machine happens to have a valid login cookie for the forum then it will still continue to function. However, if you log out
of the forum you will not be able to log in. You can not log in to the read-only site. The read-only site is designed so that everybody can still read our content but the malicious users won't be able to mess with our content.

We aren't trying to make your lives more difficult. Hopefully none of you will be affected but that's an unrealistic dream. We are trying to make this a cleaner place. A place that requires less work on our part to administrate so we can do productive things like develop AutoIt instead of baby-sit.

I updated the Forum Rules today to clarify expected behavior when reporting spammers. The additional text is included below. If you have not read the forum rules I strongly suggest you take this opportunity to do so.

Reporting Spammers

There are a couple special notes regarding spammers:

Report the spam post but do not acknowledge it in any way. Do not quote it, post something "witty" about it or post "reported". The latter is a particularly bad habit some people have. This creates extra work for the moderators and serves no purpose. Not only do the moderators have to delete the spam post but they must also delete your post. Even if a particular post is reported multiple times it only creates one report on the back-end with all the report comments so there is really no reason to announce you have reported a spammer.

If a user makes multiple spam posts it is only necessary to report one post. In your report comment mention that the user has other spam posts so we know to look at their content to find the others. In all likelihood each post will end up getting reported by other people anyway. One report and a note to check the other posts is sufficient, however.
