How to check if a button is clicked on another app ??

At first, I believed it should be pretty straightforward to do with autoit, but I'm amazed that this simple function isn't implemented... I'm trying to do stuff (database update from a text field control) when user click on a button on another app (not autoit own gui). I've no difficulties to get the text from the external app with something like :

$str=ControlGetText($wintitle, "","[CLASS:appclass; INSTANCE:3]")

and I can easily get the handle of the button too, but checking if a button was clicked on another app is not possible with built in functions

I've seen this thread here but doesn't apply for my case because it doesn't really check the button state. I've searched on google, and may be there is a clean way to do it with WM_COMMAND ??

claude21,

Perhaps because, as you have found, it is not as simple as that! ;)

One way I have used to see if a button is pressed in an external app is to check if anything else on the GUI changes. Does the button caption change? Does the status bar read differently? Does a child window open? Such things can be checked for and indicate that the button has been pressed.

It is not quite what you wanted to hear, but I hope this helps.

Hi and thanks for you're time.

Unfortunatly, there is not change in the GUI when the button is clicked, all the stuff is done underground. My only way is to catch that dawm button state. I don't really understand why a function like "ControlGetState" doesn't exists since WinGetState do.

  • 5 years later...

I need to read the state of a button on another application.

I was playing with the Window Info tool and saw the Style property changes from 0x54012001 to 0x5C012000, when the button goes from Enable to Disable.

Have anyone else used this to detect disabled button?

Thanks in advance
