llewxam Posted February 28, 2015 Share Posted February 28, 2015 All functions except those that fall under "GUI set parameters" (as far as I can think at the moment) follow the usage:function(control handle, argument)So why is it that things such as GUISetState are reversed?GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $GUI)Even after using AutoIt for many many years on a heavy basis I sometimes forget this, and just spent about 10 minutes trying to understand why opening a second GUI in an app was failing, suspecting I had done something else wrong to make the app freeze (since that second GUI wouldn't show up) only to suddenly realize that I had the syntax backwards, again just because my brain is used to the syntax being handle first.....Any thoughts?Thanks!Ian My projects: IP Scanner - Multi-threaded ping tool to scan your available networks for used and available IP addresses, shows ping times, resolves IPs in to host names, and allows individual IPs to be pinged. Myself answered me by pointing out that these GUISet* functions are designed to be used for the most part immediately following the creation of the GUI to which they refer - and as such have been coded to act by default on the last created GUI, thus making the handle parameter redundant. However, a handle parameter is there just in case the functions were required later in the script and it was necessary to specify the GUI to which they referred. On reflection I thought that myself had probably got it right. But the GUISet* are the oddballs, and I have very often wondered why. As in, WHY?? Using an optional parameter, with it's default value to me seems...icky to use your word, I'd call it pointlessly redundant coding.
