wildcard in conditional statements

how can this be done?

if $var=D* or L* then

in other words, if $var starts with D or L then ....

If StringLeft($var, 1) = "D" Or StringLeft($var, 1) = "L" Then

If you need it to be Case sensitive then replace the = signs with ==

There are many ways, but I wan in a RegExp mood... :)
