"Ataching" images into a program

Hello. I've been wondering if there isn't a way that I can "atach" an image file into the compiled .exe, or other way to have the image always in the program without the need of having it on your hard drive.

Its just troublesome to have the need to create a specific folder just to carry that image, and to pass the program to others i'll need to zip it.

So, basicaly, if someone can tell me how to, i'd like to find a way to have an image on my gui, without having to load it from the pc, but actualy creating it right away ( i don't have any idea about this).

Or, if it isn't possible, or too hard to do, just tell me. I don't understand a thing about other programming languages, only the basics of auto it.

Thanks in advance.

jiglei,

A couple of possibilities to get images into a compiled .exe:

1. FileInstall. This places a copy of a file in your .exe which you can load onto the user's machine and then use from within your script. Read the Help file carefully and search for the many forum threads.

2. Zedna's excellent Resources UDF (which you can find here). This is more complicated to use, but allows you to use files stored in your .exe without having to copy them onto the user's machine. It requires more effort from the coder to get everything into the .exe, but does have the advantage of not having to load files onto a new machine - everything is self-contained. If you want to use this you MUST read the Resources thread carefully and try out the examples - the UDF is not difficult to use, but if you do not take the trouble to learn how to use it properly, you will have problems.

I would recommend trying FileInstall first - if you can get what you want that way it is far simpler.

I feel ashamed that I couldn't have found that FileInstall() in first place...

Thanks for your help, file install will work perfectly in this case, since I can also had an "OnAutoItExit" function to delete the file when exiting the program, or just keep it, depending on the use of the program.

In case I'll ever need it, i'll register the UDF you've suggested me, cause it sounds very useful.

Thanks once more :)

jiglei,

I agree that the Help file can be too big at times! :)

Glad I could help.
