If WinExists("AIMP2") Then ControlSend("AIMP2", "", "TAIMPDockSkinFixed1", "v")

I have this line of code in two different functions. In one function, that's called 'normally' (I mean it's gotten to in regular order of the script), it works fine, as it's expected. However, in the other function, that's called with a HotKey, it doesn't work unless the receiving app has focus. Either by making it active manually, or a prior call with WinActivate.

If WinExists("AIMP2") Then
 WinActivate("AIMP2")
 ControlSend("AIMP2", "", "TAIMPDockSkinFixed1", "v")
EndIf

My question is why does this act like this? It's not a problem really, just a few extra lines of code that I didn't think would be neccessary.

You can also use WinWaitActive()

Post your code because code says more then your words can. SciTe Debug mode - it's magic: #AutoIt3Wrapper_run_debug_mode=Y.
