Difference: Select/Case/EndSelect<->If/ElseIf/EndIf

I know its maybe a total noob question.

I have written several scripts,one nearly 2000 lines long and pretty complicated, but I'm still trying to figure it out since my autoit starting days.

I cannot see any difference beetwen the two things,....and I am pretty sure there must be one.

(Or otherwise it would be senseless)

hoping for some enlightenment :D

If there are a lot of tests to make then Select gives a slightly simpler code ("Case:" replaces "If then elseif") and is easier to read IMO, but otherwise it is only a matter of using whichever you prefer. I don't think there is any difference between the ways methods otherwise, but maybe one has a minor speed advantage.

Select .. Case .. EndSelect allows you to use ContinueCase which has no equivalent with the If .. ElseIf .. Else .. Endif construct.

Good point.

I guess it deserves a bit of attention at times, as I seldom see it employed. There are only 2 occurences in the standard include UDFs (in FF.au3).

It can really save the day by cutting some weird corners in an otherwise straightforward logic.
