Lock a Edit

I had a quick scan through the styles, but failed to find something along the lines of lock ( not editable by the user ).

I didn't say I want to disable the control in my first post did I? I said "not editable by the user"...

Set the controls style to BitOR($GUI_SS_DEFAULT_EDIT, $ES_READONLY)

This requires you to #include<EditConstants.au3>

Is there a way to make it not grayed out?

So far you have the proper methods of doing it. There is a bastardized method that can be used where you don't even need the $ES_READONLY style. In order for that to work, at some point you have to read the contents of the Edit into a variable ($sStr) Then use something like this in a loop (your message loop is fine.)

If GUICtrlRead($hEdit) <> $SStr Then GUICtrlSetData($hEdit, $sStr)

That will prevent user changes but it usually means more code and far more checking.
