Wasp
One of my mates asked me if it was possible for me to find the ip address of a persons computer that has sent you an email and i took on the challenge. but i simply don't know where to start. any ideas out there on how to tackle this script. (which by the way would be very cool if it worked)
Richard Robertson
That's very much impossible since many people use web based email clients which means the email originates at say Google, Yahoo, or Windows Live. At best you could track it that far.
Developers Jos Posted June 14, 2010 Developers Share Posted June 14, 2010 When you look at the SMTP header of an SMTP Email you can find some information on the source IP and the route the Email took, but it will show the Ip address of the Internet gateway the sender used. The Ip address of the PC means didly since the majority will have a private Ip address (192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) since they live behind a router/firewall.
