Variable casting?

Recommended Posts

Hello AutoIt specialists,

I would like to know if there is a possibility to overcome this problem

$n = 5

$base = "buffer"

$myvar = "$" & $base & $n ; $myvar now contains the string "$buffer5"

How do I assign some string to the casted variable $buffer5 ?

Thanks alot in advance

Jake

Jakester,

Building programmatically a variable name does make the variable exist. Here's what you're after: IsDeclared, Assign, Eval, Execute.

Assign("abc", 3, 2)
If IsDeclared("abc") Then
    Execute("$abc += 1")                ;; won't work! (assignments are ineffective in Execute)
    ConsoleWrite(Eval("abc") & @LF)
    Assign("abc", Eval("abc") + 1)      ;; works as expected
    ConsoleWrite(Eval("abc") & @LF)
    ConsoleWrite($abc + 1 & @LF)        ;; $abc is a "normal" variable
    Local $varname = "abc"
    ConsoleWrite(Eval($varname) + 2 & @LF)  ;; access it using indirection
EndIf
