Read words with separator in line

I have file with about 1000 lines. The lines looks:

firstane.surname

firstane.surname

It is possible to readfileline firstname of first line, next surname of first line and then type it in new file?

Then firstame/surname of 2 lines....to 1000 line.

Have you tried looking at the examples for each function or the tutorials?
