[SOLVED] Tutorial on writing GUI apps in AutoIT?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I barely know AutoIT, and need to display a simple dialog box with a list of items the user can choose, and then click on OK or Cancel.

Since it's the first link in this forum, I assume there's only one GUI designer for AutoIT, and it's Koda.

Problem is, the Tutorial section on its wiki is not a tutorial, but just a few Q&A's.

Is there a real tutorial somewhere, eg. "Hello, world!", so that I can have this dialog box up and running ASAP?

Thank you.

littlebigman,

You will find excellent tutorials here and here. Other, more advanced, tutorials are in the Wiki (the link is at the top of the page).

Good luck - it is not that difficult - honest! ;)

Thanks for the links.

Auto-1.2.3 appears not to be a tutorial, but a group of script files, and I guess it's up to the user to learn to use AutoIT by reading the source code.

"Learning to Script with AutoIt V3 (Last Updated 17 Feb 2010).pdf" contains a section on writing GUI's, with no reference to Koda: Does it mean that Koda is a totally independent way to code GUI in AutoIT? Should I use Koda or AutoIT directly?

@littlebigman

You can do it either way, Koda or directly, it's up to personal coding style and your experience level. I started out by using Koda to learn how to make GUIs and have moved on from it after learning what I could about the different parts you can add to a GUI. If you want to learn how to do it yourself, try using Koda for a while and then just study the code that it creates. You'll get much better at creating a GUI than Koda can do for you if you learn what each thing does and how to move it around the windows.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
