Best and simplest way to do a very basic list sort.

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me the best way to do a simple list(1 column) sort..

I looked at sort on the help file with little to no help..

I can only see a load the items one by one then call sort...

Is there a way to sort a file without loading it.. like in a batch file you can "sort test.txt > test_srt.txt"

without ever loading it... does autoit have anyting like that....

If there was a load the list into autoit via a load into an array and then sort array would be ok but I do not see a load array...

Best would be to sort without loading as i have to save it back out once sorted...

Thanks..

If you don't want to load the file into AutoIt then AutoIt can't sort the file.

But as the OS offers the sort command use "RUN" and sort the file this way.

If you want to load the file into AutoIt I would use _FileReadToArray and then _ArraySort to sort the array.

What makes you think the the Sort command in Windows doesn't load the file? If that were true, then there wouldn't be a memory command line switch for the Sort command. There's no magic involved, the file has to be loaded so that the program can operate on it.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
