texan
Could files be left open if you Exit your script when using the GUIOnEventMode? I created a GUI script that does various update processes on a PC. The script displays a simple GUI Window that has one label that displays the status of the updates and I also include a Cancel button. I am using the GUIOnEventMode option to process the cancel button or close window event. If either is pressed I want to stop the script and Exit. I read in the documentation that the OnEvent mode will "temporarily pause the script and call a pre-defined function to handle the event". Well, in part of my script I open and read an Excel file so I was wondering if it is possible that the Excel file could be left open if I happen to hit the Cancel button between the open and close Excel functions? Should I put all "clean up" type code (closing files) in a function that gets called at the end of my script and also gets called in the Cancel button OnEvent function? Moderators Melba23 Posted December 17, 2010 Moderators Share Posted December 17, 2010 texan,As far as I know AutoIt is very well behaved and clears up after itself when it exits by closing all open handles.... HOWEVER...Clearing up after yourself is an excellent habit to get into (you might well move onto a less well-mannered language later) - so I would recommend that you do close the file on exit. If you look in the Help file for OnAutoItExitRegister, you will see that you do not even have to call the function - it runs itself as you go.
