BartPE - WinPE - ???

G'day ALL

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

One of my long term projects on the back burner is to create a recovery CD with a taloured set of AutoIT scripts for each of my customers.

Originally I was going to use BartPE but it is only for XP and to keep it legal the customer needs a windows licence for the recovery CD.

I.E. I can't give them a BartPE disk with XP on it if they have Vista or Windows 7.

Any suggestions?

I've done some searching around but before I commit to any one of them.

I'd like to hear if anyone has tried and and what the pitfalls are.

Thanks in advance!

You can download the Windows Automated Installation Kit from Microsoft even if you don't have a valid license for Vista. You can build a PE disk from that and use it on any system and any version of Windows no license required, find the download here.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

This thread answers all your questions

THANKS!

That was one of the ones I found (just not that page) but I did start on another one and it was a complete loss so I thought it was time to get recomendations. I've only just started reading through the thread so do you mind if I aks questions later? One thing I did notice already is Make_PE3 is an AutoIT program...Good to see :x

Also thanks BrewManNH I'll look into that when I've got my head around the other thread. I didn't find any agreement. I can't believe that M$ would legally allow me to create rescue disks for my customers using this. It just doesn't seem like M$ at all???

Hope everyone had a great New Year!

There's a site that's creating a Vista and/or Win7 version of the BartPE rescue disk, or my favorite the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows. You can see what they're doing at this site VistaPE (WinBuilder). They show how to use the WAIK that I referenced earlier.
