dynamic number of spaces

Recommended Posts

I would like the index and the number of spaces preceding text to be equal. This is as close as I am as of yet, but it still only executes the regexpreplace once per line. thanks

#include <Array.au3>

$sText = "CountDown"

$Atext = stringsplit ($sText , '' , 2)
_ArrayDisplay ($Atext)

for $n = 1 to ubound ($Atext) - 1
$Atext[$n] = stringregexpreplace ($Atext[$n] , '(\A)' , " " , $n)
_ArrayDisplay ($Atext)
Next

You mean something like this?

#include <Array.au3>
$sText = "CountDown"
$Atext = StringSplit($sText, '', 2)
_ArrayDisplay($Atext)
For $n = 1 To UBound($Atext) - 1
    $Atext[$n] = _Spaces($n) & $Atext[$n]
Next
_ArrayDisplay($Atext)

Func _Spaces($nCount)
    Local $strResult = ""
    For $i = 1 To $nCount
        $strResult &= " "
    Next
    Return $strResult
EndFunc

Edit: removed StringRegExpReplace

I think this is what you're looking for:

#include <Array.au3>
$sText = "CountDown"
$Atext = StringSplit($sText, '', 2)
_ArrayDisplay($Atext)
For $n = 1 To UBound($Atext) - 1
    $Spaces = ""
    For $x = 1 To $n
        $Spaces &= " "
    Next
    $Atext[$n] = $Spaces & $Atext[$n]
    _ArrayDisplay($Atext)
Next

Can't say why the regexp doesn't work because I don't know enough about them to say for sure.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
