RagsRevenge Posted February 7, 2011 Share Posted February 7, 2011 Hello folks,I must have a fundamental misunderstanding of classes and how they work in AutoIt regular expressions. I want to be able to determine how many alpha characters are in a string.Here's a small test to show my difficulty.test1() ;works, but nasty looking ConsoleWrite(@CRLF) test2() ;preferred "solution", but doesn't work. func test1() Local $str = "(* test *)" ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) $str = StringRegExpReplace($str, "[abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz]", "@") Local $repl = @extended ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) ConsoleWrite($repl & @CRLF) EndFunc func test2() Local $str = "(* test *)" ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) $str = StringRegExpReplace($str, "[:alpha:]", "@") Local $repl = @extended ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) ConsoleWrite($repl & @CRLF) EndFuncAny help greatly appreciated.D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Moderators Melba23 Posted February 7, 2011 Moderators Share Posted February 7, 2011 RagsRevenge,You need to place the Class inside a set like this:test1() ;works, but nasty looking ConsoleWrite(@CRLF) test2() ;preferred "solution", but does work now!!!! func test1() Local $str = "(* test *)" ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) $str = StringRegExpReplace($str, "[abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz]", "@") Local $repl = @extended ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) ConsoleWrite($repl & @CRLF) EndFunc func test2() Local $str = "(* test *)" ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) $str = StringRegExpReplace($str, "[[:alpha:]]", "@") ; <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Local $repl = @extended ConsoleWrite($str & @CRLF) ConsoleWrite($repl & @CRLF) EndFuncUsed to catch me out a lot when I started with SREs. FichteFoll Posted February 7, 2011 Share Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) $str = StringRegExpReplace($str, "[[:alpha:]]", "@") Try "[[:alpha:]]" since "[:alpha:]" does only provide a sting like "a-z" and needs to be inside of a set, "[a-zA-Z]" would do it as well. Edit: Melba23 was faster. Edited February 7, 2011 by FichteFoll Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Mat Posted February 7, 2011 Share Posted February 7, 2011 You can specify character ranges as a class, so here's how I'd do it. This will match anything in the alphabet in either upper or lowercase. StringRegExpReplace($str, "[A-z]", "") I don't like using the :classes:, and I always use the above for stuff like this Mat AutoIt Project Listing Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
