Create list of directory shortnames-longnames?

Recommended Posts

Before I sit down to write this script, I thought I might ask if someone else has already done something like it. I can't find anything on the forums, but possibly I haven't done the right search

I want to write a script that will traverse a directory tree and create a text file that lists the directories in the tree (not the files); in the text file, each line should have the 8.3 DOS filename followed by the long name (without the rest of the path, something like this:

C:\DOCUM~1\ROSCOE\MYDOCU~ My Documents

I know that the way to do this is to use FileGetShortName for the shortname, and manipulate the long name, with StringRight and other functions, to get the long name. And to traverse the tree, I suppose I should use the DirWalk.au3 here:

But if anyone has code that already does much of this, I would be very grateful.

Edward Mendelson,

My RecFileListToArray UDF (look in my sig) will also list folders within a path. Together with FileGetShortName you should find it very easy to do what you want. :)
