Array manipulation

I am trying to add elements to an array using _ArrayAdd and _Arraypush, but it is failing.

_ArrayDisplay($mismatcharray, "StringExplode") is not displaying anything.

Please help.

$missmatchdata=$sourcecolumns[$scolumn] & "," & $targetcolumns[$tcolumn]

msgbox(1,"s",$missmatchdata)

_ArrayAdd($mismatcharray, $missmatchdata)

_ArrayPush($mismatcharray, $missmatchdata)

You cannot use _Array* functions on a non-existent array - you must have declared the array beforehand.

I am also bemused as to why you use both _ArrayAdd and _ArrayPush. What exactly do you want in your array?

This is my best guess as to what you need:

#include <Array.au3>

; Declare the array at the beginning of the script
Global $mismatcharray[1]

; Now in the script itself
$missmatchdata = "Source" & "," & "Target"

MsgBox(1, "s", $missmatchdata)

_ArrayPush($mismatcharray, $missmatchdata)

_ArrayDisplay($mismatcharray, "StringExplode")

If I have misunderstood please come back with a better explanation of what the final array should look like.

Do some errorchecking and insert a ConsoleWrite after each statement:

Thanks, I had declared array as $mismatcharray instaed of "Global $mismatcharray[1000]"

Now it is working.

But, this poses a limitation on the size of the array, as we will not know how many values we may have to store in the array.This gets decided dynamically.

So, is there a way to store data in the dynamic array?

_ArrayAdd as you use it increases the size of the array (see the example in the help file). So you could define your array as "Global $mismatcharray[1]". Disadvantage: Record 0 will be empty.

Performance might be bad because _ArrayAdd does a ReDim for every record you add.

If performance is an issue I would suggest to replace _ArrayAdd and ReDim the array in steps of e.g. 1000 records or define the array with the maximum of records and ReDim (shrink) the array at the end of your script.

Here are a couple of interesting systems I've used in various forms in the past. Each one I used because it suited a particular appplication:

• Keep a counter in the first element and rewrite _ArrayAdd to increment the counter and add the item at that position. _ArrayAdd only increases the size of the array when it needs to, and possibly increases it in multiples 10 or more. I used it when I had an array that was always being made bigger and smaller.
• Increase the array by lots every time you need to, one of the things Melba usually recommends is to double the size each time.
• Are they all strings? How about just &ing them together with a seperator and then using StringSplit?
