GUI Event Handling

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new to AutoIt. I wrote a code snippet as follows

#include <GDIPlus.au3>
#include <GUIConstants.au3>
#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <ButtonConstants.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

$Main_BackGround = GUICreate("USB AIO", 500, 300, 200, 120)
$Background_Image = GUICtrlCreatePic(@ScriptDir & "\Images\Background.jpg", 0, 0, 500, 300)
GUICtrlSetState(-1, $GUI_DISABLE)
$ADD_SCRIPT_BUTTON = GUICtrlCreateButton("Add Script", 48, 24, 80, 80, $BS_BITMAP)
GUICtrlSetImage($ADD_SCRIPT_BUTTON, @ScriptDir & "\Images\Add.bmp", 0)
GUISetState(@SW_SHOW)

While 1
    $msg = GUIGetMsg()
    Select
        Case $msg = $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            ExitLoop
        Case $msg = $ADD_SCRIPT_BUTTON
            Run('Notepad.exe')
    EndSelect
WEnd

What I observed is, if I use

GUISetState(@SW_SHOW)
instead of
GUICtrlSetState(-1, $GUI_DISABLE)
@ line no 11, the "Add Script" button remains clickable NO MORE, i.e, pressing the button triggers no event. Can anybody please explain me the reason?

HolmesShelock,

If you have overlapping active controls AutoIt will action neither as it cannot decide which you actually wanted to action. By omitting the GUICtrlSetState(-1, $GUI_DISABLE) line, you are leaving the Pic control active and so the button does not work.

As it says in the Help file:

"If a picture is set as a background picture, as the other controls will overlap, it's important to disable the pic control and create it after the others controls"

All clear? :unsure:

Edit: Welcome to the AutoIt forum, by the way! :>
