Trouble with StringRegExp

I have this

$var = "numero di bambini: 20" 
$a = StringRegExp($var, 'bambini',3) 
_ArrayDisplay($a)

and i want in $a = 20

any suggest?

Welcome to the AutoIt forum.

Try this:

$a = StringRegExp($var, ':\s(\d*)\z',3)

Explanation:

:\s   - colon followed by space
(\d*) - capture a number of digits - this is what we are actually looking for
\z    - end of string

Or simply

$var = "numero di bambini: 20"
$a = StringRegExp($var, "(\d+)(?:\v|$)+",3)

If you are looking only at a single string as shown above then you are better off using StringRegExpReplace()

$var = "numero di bambini: 20"
$a = StringRegExpReplace($var, ".*(\d+)$", "$1")
If @Extended Then
    MsgBox(0, "Result", $a)
EndIf

But I recommend you look at George's solutions - he is much better at SREs than me.

There is nothing wrong with yours.

SRE's are very flexable remember and without knowing exactly what the OP is trying to read from it's difficult to come up with the ultimate SRE.

For example;

Is there really a need for flag 3 or would 1 do it?

Is it actually going to be digits in that location? If not then mine won't work.

All we can do is look at the posted example and then the SRE is based on that.

I can think of a multitude of scenarios where we would both be wrong.
