Access User Folder on and Old Domain

I've been trying to figure out a way to open an explorer window for users on our new domain that would display the contents of thier old user folder on the old domain. I've tried dozens of ideas, but can't seem to figure out how to include the %username% in the path. Here is a simple example to give you an idea of what I'm trying to accomplish:

$_OldDocs = "\\11.2.12.22\home\%username"%

ShellExecute ("Explorer.exe", $_OldDocs )

The username for each domain is the same, but the domain and password are different so I'm hoping to use the current username to decide which folder on the old domain the user needs to see. I realize that I can't add %username% to the path like it shows in the above example, but I can't seem to figure out a way to get the current username and then insert it into the path.

If anyone has some input here I'd really appreciate it. It's been years since I've written any code so it's very possible that something I've tried has been close but had the wrong syntax.

Try this:

$_OldDocs = "\\11.2.12.22\home\" & @username

You may need to add quotes in there but that will append the user's login name to the end of the path string.

There is also Opt("ExpandEnvStrings", 1) that should expand the %username% string.

I tried this code to test BrewManNH's suggestion:

$_OldDocs = "\\11.2.12.22\home\" & @UserName

MsgBox (0,"OldDocs", $_OldDocs)

ShellExecute ("Explorer.exe", $_OldDocs )

This opened a message box with the correct path in the window so that part is working correctly.

However Explorer.exe just opens the Documents folder for the current user on the local machine. Do I have the syntax correct in the last line?

Try it this way and let us know if it works:

ShellExecute($_OldDocs)

It should open an explorer window to the user's old folder.

I should have tried that in the first example when I showed you how to append the user's name to the string, but I wasn't paying attention to the second line at the time. At least it's all good now. Glad I could help.
