readmedottxt
Hello, I've got code monitoring a large log file on a network share and am having trouble when the file changes. This is the problematic code: $varLogSize = FileGetSize($LogFile) if $varLogSizeOld > $varLogSize then $varLogSize = $varLogSizeOld ConsoleWrite($varLogSize & " $i: " & $i & @CRLF) FnReadLog($i) EndIf When I ConsoleWrite() the file size, the reported size doesn't update, even through the the file is steadily growing. If I exit and restart the script, it reads the file size at the first FileGetSize() statement then retains that figure. Are there any other methods of monitoring the a log file that I might be missing? Thanks
guinness
Have you tried the code with a log file in @ScriptDir? Also have a look at AdLibRegister() this might help if you want to periodically check every certain number of seconds. readmedottxt
Have you tried the code with a log file in @ScriptDir? Also have a look at AdLibRegister() this might help if you want to periodically check every certain number of seconds. Interesting you say about AdlibRegister(), I've tried with some more code, eliminating the use of the above code snippet: if Mod(@SEC, 15) == 0 And $varLastSecond <> @SEC Then $varLastSecond = @SEC FnReadLog($i) EndIf It still doesn't work unless I specifically do a FileReadLine($f, $i) $f = the open log file $i = the current line of the log file. I can't keep using a line number in FileReadLine because it re-reads the entire log file each time you specify a line, in my case the log is hundreds of meg in size. It works OK when you specify the line number the first time you read an updated part of the file (eg FileReadLine($f, $i)) then just use FileReadLine($f) for subsequent reads until EOF. I can't put the monitor in the log file dir, I have many servers to monitor and need a visual status on a different box. Thanks
BrewManNH
Can you check the current modified date/time against the old modified date/time? That way instead of seeing whether it's changed size you can see if it's been modified recently. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day.
