I used to use AutoIt all the time to create installation routines for WindowsXp quite successfully with the exceptions of some hard to crack installation programs that wouldn't allow keystrokes or had windows that simply wouldn't allow any form of manipulation.

Ever since I installed Windows 7 it has been a nightmare to try using AutoIt. First the User Account Control kept popping up... and I read around on the forums how to shut that off... with success... but now all the *.au3 files that I compiled into programs no longer work. They all get stuck on the very first window that pops up.

I knew that perhaps a few things have changed since I last used AutoIt, so I decided that the best way to figure out what probably changed was to use the recorder and see how it records... but when I tried using the AU3recorder, first of all... it simply wouldn't record anything that I was doing... but I figured that out too... I had to run the AU3recorder as Administrator... then it worked to record stuff... but even then... that which was recorded wouldn't work when I compiled it and executed it... so I am at a loss as to what is going on???

The AU3 recorder records what I do... then I compile it and it still stays frozen on the first window... I haven't been able to figure out why.

Have you checked the Output in SciTE? Did you mean WinWaitActive OR _WinWaitActive?

I'm not sure where you found_WinWaitActive?! And what Version of AutoIt are you using?

I recorded the script with the AU3 recorder and tried to compile it and run it... that's why I am confused... it used to work with older versions of SciTE and AutoIt... and now it added the underscore in front of the WinWaitActive... which I thought was a new function?

and yes, the message box function did work...

I am using the newest versions... which I just downloaded from the AutoIt site.

Can't you write the code manually? I would suggest you take inspiration from the AutoIt Recorder and the modify it to suit your needs, using the Help File too.

Can't you write the code manually? I would suggest you take inspiration from the AutoIt Recorder and the modify it to suit your needs, using the Help File too.

The code that I originally wrote to install a version of the application on Windows XP wasn't working, that's why I used the recorder in the first place.

If you read into the AU3 file that I wrote, you can see some of the code that I used for the original version at the bottom below the #signs.

I am just stumped as to why the window doesn't accept my code in windows 7.

Yes, the windows are properly titled according to the AU3Info.

Might this have something to do with the User Account Control? I shut that off though...

Once I figure out how to get past the first window I should be fine... but the script isn't getting me anywhere right now.

This has all the classic symptoms of code that was written a long time ago using a much older version of AutoIt and now you are attempting to use it with the new version without looking at all the Script Breaking changes that have occured in the meantime.

I've read the code breaking script but don't understand how that is supposed to apply to my situation.

I was just pointing out that if you used an old version of AutoIt to do the original then it may not work with the newer versions and your symtoms are reminiscent of that.

What version of AutoIt was this first written with?
