Problem with shellexecute and $sign in command

Hey all,

ive been roaming the Autoit board for a while now, but this time i cant find my answer in the forum. therefor im hoping you guys can help me out on this one :huh2:

ive got an app that has a string for it to execute example:

ShellExecuteWait("c:\appname.exe","/load " & "image")

in the new version it requires a $B1-1 to launch it so it would be:

ShellExecuteWait("c:\appname.exe","/load " & "image '$B1-1'")

so i figured ok well ill quote it to '$B1-1' as a $ sign is a variable and there is no variable declared.

but it just wont launch the bugger.

if i do it through a dosbox it does work but then again it gives an ugly dos box command.

hope someone can help me out on this one.

thanks for the fast reply!!

may i ask why?

Global $B1 = 2

and in the command we set

& ($B1 - 1)

didnt do the trick btw wont load :huh2:

the command i use in dos btw is:

"c:\appname.exe" /load "image $B1-1")

I dunno! What is $B1 meant to be? I purely gave it a fake integer value for visual purposes.

the application needs it as its a guid of the launched image.

As of what i can see the:

"image $B1-1")

image and the guid need to be within the same line, or does the & sign connect them as if it where in one command?

I don't think there is such a thing as GUID for a File, but I could be wrong. What is appname.exe anyway?

its pnagent.exe from citrix xendesktop5, figured id put it up here in a simple manner :huh2:

as it loads the farmname and there it loads the guid from the created desktopgroup.

hence the:

"c:\Citrix\pnagent.exe" /load "farm:desktop $B1-1")

where the $B1-1 is the unique desktop group name, if i would add a new one it would be:

$B2-2

in the old version doing:

"c:\Citrix\pnagent.exe" /load "farm:desktop" was enough.

It seems to me you should read the help file at Function Reference >> AutoItSetOption § ExpandVarStrings

Local $var = "ghi"
Local $str = "abc def $var$ jkl mno"
ConsoleWrite($str & @LF)
AutoItSetOption("ExpandVarStrings", 1)
ConsoleWrite($str & @LF)

Note that this does only plain variable interpolation, not expression interpolation (AutoIt <> Perl)

In your case, use an intermediate variable, like $interB = $b1 - 1 and string it as you want.

Now you can achieve the exact same result by just concatenating stuff, or using StringFormat.

This wonderful site allows debugging and testing regular expressions (many flavors available). An absolute must have in your bookmarks.
