bourny Posted June 23, 2011 Share Posted June 23, 2011 I am lookin to get my script to reboot the machine on multiple users machines at a specific time of night as the users do not always reboot their machines. That part is simple but I have an issue that the users tend to just log out and leave the machine at the login prompt instead of shutting down. In the event the user loggs off my script will die off and the overnight reboot will not kick in. My plan is to detect if the user attempts to log out and then initiates a reboot instead. Possibly we could look to disable the logout option and just allow then to shutdown / restart or switch the logout to a shut down and restart. any ideas welcome. If you use the System credentials you won't even need to have it logged in to do it. Also, if you create the scheduled task on one machine you can set it to wake the computer before running it to make sure it runs, then copy it to the computers you need to run it with all of the files you'd need to have it execute the command. I just did this yesterday on the computers at one of the campuses I oversee and it appears to have worked on the ones that I checked this morning. BrewManNH : Scheduling the task is a good idea and has other benefits. I think in this case the @exitMethod will work better for me and will bnot require me to dump out of the script to be then executed later requiring more functions to detect it has been woken up from a scheduled task.
