Backlight problem!

Recommended Posts

Ive made a program that shows a gui thats bigger then my screens and fills it with black.

This allows me to play on my console without getting distracted by my screen.

My second monitor is fine, but the built-on/in laptop monitor is so bright with black that it is a bit annoying.

But, so far this is all i got:

And that doesn't affect anything when the screen goes black.

Any suggestions ?

Close the laptop lid?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I believe that most/all laptops have a Function Key combination (Fn Key, usually marked in bue) that allows you to press the Fn Key and (prob; F7 or F8, look at the keytops to see.) to switch between the laptop screen and an attached monitor or to blank the laptop screen without hibernationg or shutting down the laptop.

Have Fun.

Thanks for the idea, but I run a dual monitor setup and if I change any of those settings it resets my desktop and it would be real annoying to fix that every time.

Also I could use FN+Home/FN+End to turn up/down the backlight, but im trying to figure out if I could change it between the 15 steps of light.

Can you use Send with the FN button? I didnt find it in the help.

Close the laptop lid?

I did that all the time before, but 1. It makes the lid loose after some time and 2. if i close it so the light goes of it resets my second monitors connection and my desktop.

I'll look if i can find something about getting autoit to press the FN key.

If someone got ideas on how to controll the backlight, please share!

The FN key is controlled by the hardware, I don't believe that the software can affect it. Although it can read it on some brands, such as when adjusting the brightness you'll see an OSD indicating that it's being changed.

Download and run (may or may not require admin privs, haven't tested it with function keys): http://mirror.fcofix.org/keypresstool.py while adjusting the backlight. If there's numerical output then you'll be able to control the backlight via software, if not then you can't.

My UDFs are generally for me. If they aren't updated for a while, it means I'm not using them myself. As soon as I start using them again, they'll get updated.
