Find string to the right of string

EndFunc

Recommended Posts

Ok, This one should be fairly simple but yet it's not. I always have a hard time with string manipulation. :graduated:

What Im trying to do is parse a text file line. Get the find a string in the line and get the string next to it.

This is an example.

Here is the lines in the file

Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection 5 7

Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 #2 Local Area Connection 6 7

I want to find the string Local Area Connection and the get the number to the right. 5 or 6.

This what I tried and didn't come out as expected.

$line = "Intel(R) Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 #2               Local Area Connection 6  7"
If StringInStr($line, "X520-T2 #2") Then
$new = StringRight(StringInStr($line, "Local Area Connection"), 2)
  MsgBox(0, "Line read:", $new)
EndIf

That doesn't really work. So not sure of the best method.

Thanks

EndFuncAutoIt is the shiznit. I love it.

$String = "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection 5 7"

$ConnectionNumber = StringMid($String,StringInStr($String, "Local Area Connection ") + 22,1)

MsgBox(0,"",$ConnectionNumber)

EDIT:

autoit tags failing.

As well as StringMid() you could use _StringBetween($sString, "Local Area Connection ", " ")

option 3 ( of probably 20 possible):

$string = "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection 5 7"

$result = StringRegExp($string, "Local Area Connection\s+(\w+)", 1)

MsgBox(1,"",$result[0])

Edit: removed code tags

Thanks all for the replies.

I have a follow up to this question. How would you go about finding what the whole number if you didn't know if it was single digit or double digit?

for instance what if it was

Local Area Connection 10 instead and you needed the script to just parse out the number. Using the methods above it would only give you the 1 instead of 10. How can you account for any size number? Can't figure that out.

Guiness's method for this part seemed promising but keeps returning 0.

Guiness' script should get that for you as it's looking for anything that's between the words "Local Area Connection " and the next space character.

And it returns an Array not a String e.g. $aArray = _StringBetween(...) you should use $aArray[0]

Thanks problem is sometimes it puts more than one space after the words. Like some queries have a tabbed space and not a single space so then that doesn't work either. :graduated: If I use stringStripWS it removes the spaces which is also the delimiter in this case. This shouldn't be that hard but apparently more than I thought. lol

What about?

4 = strip double (or more) spaces between words

What about?

Tried that..

I'm trying to identify a NIC. using the device ID however the ID is after the nic name and there is more than one space between. What I'm doing doesn't seem to work.

Here is an example

$line = "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 7 Other Stuff Here"

$sString = StringMid($line,StringStripWS(StringInStr($line, "X520-T2", 0, 1), 4)+6,1)

$nString = _StringBetween($line, $sString, " ")

What I want is to be able to account for the extra space after T2 and get 7. But it could be a double digit sometimes like 10 or 12. etc.

EndFuncAutoIt is the shiznit. I love it.

$sStr = StringRegExpReplace($sStr, "\h+", " ")

That will get rid of horiz tabs and extra spaces.

To get the values you wanted try this

$sString = "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection 5 7"

$sValue = StringRegExpReplace($sString, "(?i)(?m:^).+Connection\s*(\d\s*\d*).+"," $1")

MsgBox(0, "Result", $sValue)

Damn code box screws up when editing code.

EndFunc,

Sounds like you need to enter the murky world of StringRegExp. :)

This sample has single/multiple digits, spaces and tabs:

Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection     5   7
Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 #2 Local Area Connection        16      7
Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection   25   7
Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 #2 Local Area Connection  36 7

And this script extracts what you want:

$sText = "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection  5   7   " & _
         "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 #2 Local Area Connection      16      7       "

$aArray = StringRegExp($sText, "(?U)Connection\h+(\H+)\h", 3)

For $i = 0 To UBound($aArray) - 1
    ConsoleWrite("Found: " & $aArray[$i] & @CRLF)
Next

SRE explanation:

(?U)          - Look for the smallest match
Connection\h+ - Look for the text "Connection" followed by at least 1 horizontal white space
(+H+)         - Capture any following non-whitespace characters
\h            - Until we reach another whitespace character

3             - And put what is found into an array

Any help? :graduated:

If you don't want to use regexp.

$String = "Intel® Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 Local Area Connection 5 7"

$String = StringStripWS($String,7)

$ConnectionNumber = StringMid($String,StringInStr($String, "Local Area Connection ") + 22,1)

MsgBox(0,"",$ConnectionNumber)

Thanks everyone for your input. Always swift and great as usual. That's why I love AutoIT and the community.

Everyone always has good suggestions and multiple solutions.

I wish this was like Stackoverflow so I can give points and acceptance. LOL

Thanks again.

Edit: BTW I ended up using Melba's solution as it seem to fit the best for me based on various possibilities I'll encounter and the number of occurrences.
