Copying a Number, Performing basic Mathematical Operations and Pasting

Hi,

I have semi auto-mated a task that generates random numbers in excel. However, I now need to perform basic mathematical operations on those numbers and paste them lets say on a notepad. To put it in steps, here is what I intend to achieve:

  • To Copy a number from Excel (it can be from any other application too such as Word or even Notepad)
  • Store it somewhere in my AutoIT application
  • Perform basic mathematical operations on this stored number
  • Paste the new number in Notepad (or any other document processing application)
I know how to get the number copied from Excel by just sending (Ctrl+C) but I don't know where to store or bring it to AutoIT for further processing and then pasting it say on notepad. I would really be glad if somebody can show me some ray of hope. :graduated:

Well I did it. But I know it is an alternative. I automated the entire process by copying and pasting it to calculator and then copying and pasting the numbers wherever I intend to. Can someone guide to a much easier solution? Thanks to those who gave it a look!

Cheers!

If you just need a random number, look at the Random() function, unless there's a burning need to use an external program for this.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.
