"WinMoved" window does not keep it's new position after minimize

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I can't get the WinMove function to work properly in Win XP.

My code:

WinMove ( $myWindowHandle , "" , 0, 0, 800, 600 )

Now, a window will be resized and moved correctly, but after I press the window minimize button and then press taskbar button to show the window again, the position is not (0, 0), and the size is not (800, 600) anymore.

That is likely done by the application that creates the window so you need to set it each time the window reappears.

Thank you for your help!

I'm talking windows like Firefox, Notepad++ etc. Why they don't keep their new positions on the desktop like they do when I manually move them? I forgot to mention that the problem occurs only if the target window is max sized. So the function works if the target window is smaller than the desktop area. But I can't find a solution for maximized windows.

Lost you here, Maximized windows tend to be ....maximized .... meaning use the whole window .... no?

Sorry, I may have mixed a few terms here. And my English is not very good so I didn't fully understand your reply. But let me explain the problem once more.

My screen resolution is 1200*1600 (pivot). I have 1 Firefox window open. I have maximized it (pressed the button next to close button). The window size is 1200*1571. Now, I run this script:

$myWindowHandle = WinGetHandle("[REGEXPTITLE: - Mozilla Firefox\z]")
WinMove ( $myWindowHandle , "" , 0, 0, 600, 800 )

The Firefox window is now 600 * 800, positioned at the top left. Then I press the "Show desktop" button and all windows are minimized. The problem is that when I open the Firefox window again it's size is 1200*1571 although it SHOULD be 600 * 800 and positioned at the top left, right?

That's because Windows still thinks it maximized, so it resizes the window back to full again. Simple solution, don't maximize the window before resizing it by your script.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

My guess is that your window is in Maximize mode when you run the Winmove which will indeed restore Maximized again.

Try this:

$myWindowHandle = WinGetHandle("[REGEXPTITLE: - Mozilla Firefox\z]")
WinSetState  ( $myWindowHandle , "" , @SW_RESTORE )
WinMove ( $myWindowHandle , "" , 0, 0, 800, 1000 )

Yes! @SW_RESTORE trick solved the problem. Thank you!
