Program/tray icon

G'day All

I know this maybe a "BASIC" thing from most but I've only started wanting to add icons to my program.

AND

I have a few questions.

I've added an icon to my program

#AutoIt3Wrapper_icon=C:logo_Small.ico

I just used one of the online jpg to ICO converts and it doesn't look good.

So how big/small in pixels are the icon files supposed to be? (I work on XP-Vista-Win7)

Is there an easy way of editing/creating ICO files? (I did try a random jpg-ico converter and wasn't impressed :graduated: )

I'd like to change the trayicon to indicate the programs state and found

TraySetIcon ( [filename [, iconID] )

However it requires the icon to be a file and I'd prefer it to be in program data.

I know I can use fileinstall but that seems a little messy. ;)

SO is there anyway of changing the tray icon using internal data without using temporary files and fileinstall?

Thanks for the help and patience.

You're in luck if you use #AutoIt3Wrapper_Res_Icon_Add=iconfile.ico.

To set the tray icon use TraySetIcon(@ScriptFullPath, -5) ; If you have only 2 icons added then it would be between -5 to -6, icons start from the index -5. About the size personally I use IcoFX to create icons from PNG's and normally set the size at a maximum of 256x256 or so.

Thanks guinness

I really should look into AutoIt3Wrapper more, it has so many tricks up it's sleaves. :graduated:

I do so little work with icons I don't think it's worth buying icoFX but it does look good!

256x256 should make a big difference to clarity in the icons ;) I thought they needed to be 96x96 :)

I'll go an have a play see what I can get worked out.

Hope you have a great day!

If you don't want to save it as file, maybe this could help:

Thanks for that but as my requirments are simple I'll try using "Wrapper_Res_Icon_Add" it looks like it will do what I want. :graduated:

Hi storme,

I was lucky enough to have IcoFX when it was free but I'm sure there are plenty of free icon creation services online, you can even do it using examples in WinAPIEx.au3!

You can still find the free version of icoFX out there, it's version 1.6.4 or lower that is the freeware version. Download.com even has a portable version of it that you can download from here.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
