shut down running script from another script

Recommended Posts

I would like to be able to close all instances of a running script from another script. The catch is that the running scripts should shut down properly and run their exit code to clean up the system.

My script just has an icon in the system tray with no windows and one menu item to exit. It shows up as a process and not an application in windows task manager.

I know I could send keystrokes to the tray but I figured there must be a simpler way to do it.

you can download the zip of the compiled script and code from:

http://clarimuse.co.uk/tempfont.zip

or I could post the code here if required. (Then you can laugh at my inept coding :D )

Unfortunately ProcessClose just kills the process and does not shut it down correctly - the fonts are still loaded. I need to send each instance of my script a message to shutdown as if I had clicked on the 'Unload and Exit' menu in the tray.

thanks

You'd need some form of interprocess communication to do that. I think the easiest way, with the shortest learning curve, is to have the script you want to shut down reading a text file, probably an .ini file, and if there's a certain command in there, it shuts itself down cleanly. You'd send the text file the shut down command from the main script, and have the listening script running an AdlibRegister function that periodically reads that file.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
