Windows blocking my compiled autoit script

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I'm quite new to autoit.. and mostly use it for really basic stuff such as keyboard / mouse control and tooltip information.

A friend of mine asked me to create a small script for her that does some actions, so I started out to make a script for her and see if she can run it without having AutoIt installed on her computer.

She noticed windows wont allowed her to run the compiled script.

I created a small script which only showed a random text in a while loop.

Like:

While(1)

    Tooltip("Hey")
Wend

When she tried to open it windows gave her the message (Attempting to translate from dutch):

Windows has detected that this file might be dangerous.

To protect your computer better access to this file has been blocked.

Am I doing anything wrong or can a computer not run AutoIt Compiled scripts unless it has AutoIt installed ?

Levisaxos,

You do not need AutoIt installed to run a compiled script. :rip:

I would imagine it is some form of AntiVirus reacting to the executable. Did you compress the executable with upx? If so, try compiling it without using compression and see if that helps. :D

P.S. Welcome to the AutoIt forum, by the way!

That is suspiciously like the message from Windows defender. What version of AutoIt did you compile with? The release version or the Beta?

I'm not sure if I compressed the executable. I just right clicked my script (<Name>.au3) and clicked "Compile Script (x86) since the directed computer is not 64 bit (as far as I know)

Version 3.3.6.1. I'm not sure wether it's a beta or full release.

As far as I know the only anti virus stuff my friend has on her computer is AVG. However when at home again, I'll ask her to check wether windows defender is active and if so if she would like to disable it.

Levisaxos,

AVG disables Windows Defender automatically as they do not get on well together. If she has managed to get Defender turned back on, I would suggest turning it back off again - that might well solve your problem as I run AutoIt executables under AVG with no problem at all.

To get an uncompressed executable, open the script in SciTE and then press Ctrl-F7 or select <Tools - Compile> from the menu. When the dialog opens, uncheck the "Use upx" checkbox. :D

If you right click the file and go to Properties, is there an option to "Unblock" the file. Sometimes if you've downloaded a file from another computer Windows will block access to it until you tell it that it's safe to run it.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

It's definitly not a virus (unless you wrote it as one) but I'm kind of leaning towards DEP or possibly UAC. You could try disableing those one at a time to see if it helps on that system. I suggest you re-enable them after testing if that's what they are used to.

3.3.6.1 is the release version and it's digitally signed so that's not the problem.

Also google that message you are getting and after much reading you will find out how to allow that program to run. I forget the exact steps off the top of my head.
