Using AutoIt to detect presence of dialog box and press "ok" etc

Hi, we have several batch jobs that automate excel and extract the results of calculations.

Unfortunately, like with a lot of excel automation, dialog boxes can appear that require input before processing continues - the usual "OK", "CANCEL" etc...

We're using AutoIt script to detect these dialog boxes and press the correct button. The scripts are all pretty similar to this;

while 1

WinWaitActive("System Refresh Error")

send("!n")

sleep(1000)

WEnd

This works GREAT as long as excel and then the dialog window has input focus. If the dialog box doesn't have input focus nothing happens until it gets it.

Can anyone suggest another way to do this please? Can I replace WinWaitActive with a method which will find a window that doesn't have input focus?

Thanks for any help, apologies if it's a basic question I'm new to AutoIt.

Have you looked at the Excel UDF in the Help file?

Just looking now. A lot of these messages will be raised by excel addins though, not excel itself.

There are other situations we would like to find non-active windows though.

I re-read your question. What about activating focus to the popup GUI by using WinActivate?
