Button IDs change between WinXP and Win Server 2008

Recommended Posts

I have a script I developed that runs well under WinXP. When I tried to run it under Win Server 2008, the script failed. When troubleshooting what was going on, I found that the Save button in the Save as dialog box had a different ID and that was the reason the script was failing.

Easy enough fix but is there a way to handle this so that the script would work in both environments.

Background

In this case the save as dialog box is brought up by PDF Creator. Under WinXP that brings up the regular Save as dialog box with a Save (button ID 2) and Cancel button at the bottom of the dialog box. In Win Server 2008, the Save as dialog box has a different format with a Save (button ID 1) and Cancel

ijourneaux,

How about using the TEXT: property to identify the button?

I find that for buttons on dialogs it's best to use the button text to identify buttons. I also has the advantage that it makes the code self documenting. for example;

ControlClick ( "Save File", "", "&Save")
