Quinch
Two questions, if anyone knows -Is there a way to use wildcard characters when using string-based functions? For example, if I wanted to StringSplit a string not with a fixed delimiter but instead, for example '<block>arbitrary_changing_text_I_want_to_treat_as_part_of_the_delimiter</block>', would there be a built-in way to do so? Or if I wanted to do so with StringInStr or StringReplace?Secondly, where can I find a list of, for lack of a better {known} term, shorthand expressions? Things like &=, &_, &+, _, etc? I've stumbled across them browsing UDFs, but trawling AutoIt help yielded nothing.
Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted February 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 9, 2012 Hi, Quinch. For your second question, check the helpfile under Operators. For your first, I believe the best route is going to be StringRegExp, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for. StringRegExp is by no means easy to master, but it is a powerful tool for searching and comparing strings. "Profanity is the last vestige of the feeble mind. Quinch
Ahh, regexes... I knew they'd catch up to me sooner or later. Thanks for the pointer, looking over the help now; it's a bit intimidating, but I'm starting simple so... can't be that hard, right?

I recommend this site if you are serious about getting into SREs. Difficult to learn but well worth the effort of getting a working knowledge of how to use them. Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted February 9, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 9, 2012 Keep that thought as long as possible There are a couple of good sites suggested by other members of this forum, linked below. There is also the PCRE Toolkit by GeoSoft.http://www.regular-expressions.info/tutorial.htmlhttp://www.asiteaboutnothing.net/regex/http://www.autoit.mvps.org/ "Profanity is the last vestige of the feeble mind. Quinch
Alright, a followup question in the wake of trying to grasp the basics - what flavor of regular expressions does AutoIt use?
