Search All Drives and Folders for a File and Delete It

I could really use some help on this one. I haven't used AutoIT for a while and I'm lost.

In a nutshell I need to do the following:

1. Have the script search for a file (*.PST) in all folders and on all drives connected to a PC.

2. Next, Delete any *.PST file detected.

3. The script runs silently to the user.

It would be nice to have a message box in the code for testing, so I can see all my locations to make sure the script found the file first, especially in User Profiles, and then add the delete function to test that.

Hi, RBrown 1375. This should get you started, you can add the deletion for yourself. This borrows from SmokeN's FileListtoArrayEX.au3:

This is what I have been playing with to try and get the script to search all the directories on the each of the Fixed drives. This script will find each fixed drive and find the *.pst on each root of the drive, but not any of the folders. If I could get it to do that I think I can get the delete file part. Thx

Sorry but I'm still having problems understanding a few of the posts. In post #4 where do I get the file "FileListToArrayEx.au3" to include in my script and the file RecFileListToArray.au3 in post #7. What I'm trying to get my head around is using the command DriveGetDrive("FIXED") and have it search through each drive and folder. But I do thank everyone for the help. Its nice to be working with AutoIT again.

You can get RecFileListToArray from the link in post #7 or from the link in my sig - there is a zip file at the end of the first post of the thread. :bye:

The UDF will allow you to search a drive recursively (look in all the folders) so what you need to do is get all the drives via DriveGetDrive("FIXED") and then loop thorugh the returned drive letters using them as the path to search for in the UDF. :oops:

As you seem to enjoy coding, give it a try and see how you get on - you know where we are if you run into difficulties. :doh:

I can't answer where FileListToArrayEx.au3 as you would have to search the forum for this. But with regards to RecFileListToArray.au3, follow the link I provided and then place next to your script. Then add the following...

All,

I have my code working now except for one area and I could use a some help. I tried the help fies but it doesn't cover this. In the code snippit in note #10, how would you delete the information collected by the $aDrives or the $aArray? The code returns all the files correct and thier path, but I'm looking for a way to wild card all the drives and filespath collected by the script and delete the files. I have tried _ArrayDelete from the help files and I can't get any of the files to delete, so I must be on the wrong track. Any ideas would be ver helpful.

Just replace...

with
