Hey, im' pretty new to this and havent been able to write a solution for this, even after spending a few hours reading the documentation on all of the functions.

Basically, it should:

refresh an forums page in Internet Explorer every 15 seconds to see if theres a new reply containing an email. if there is a new reply containing an email, a reply should be posted saying "Thanks!"

any help would be appreciated.

bonus points if you can make it so that the IE window doesnt have to be active. (i'd like this to run in the background so i can go on with my daily activities) but i think with autoit it has to be. :-/

did you check out dale's IE.au3? if not you should do a search for it, has great stuff for working with web pages on screen or in the background. I think you have to be using the beta for it too.

Free Internet Tools: DebugBar, AutoIt IE Builder, HTTP UDF, MODIV2, IE Developer Toolbar, IEDocMon, Fiddler, HTML Validator, WGet, curl

MSDN docs: InternetExplorer Object, Document Object, Overviews and Tutorials, DHTML Objects, DHTML Events, WinHttpRequest, XmlHttpRequest, Cross-Frame Scripting, Office object model

Automate input type=file (Related)

Alternative to _IECreateEmbedded? better: _IECreatePseudoEmbedded  Better Better?

IE.au3 issues with Vista - Workarounds

SciTe Debug mode - it's magic: #AutoIt3Wrapper_run_debug_mode=Y

Doesn't work needs to be ripped out of the troubleshooting lexicon. It means that what you tried did not produce the results you expected. It begs the questions 1) what did you try?, 2) what did you expect? and 3) what happened instead?

Reproducer: a small (the smallest?) piece of stand-alone code that demonstrates your trouble

Sorry, there is no substitute for writing some code and trying to figure this out on your own. There is likewise no canned answer when it comes to webpages because, although they use standard components, there is no stock interface.

Try some things and then come back with code to either brag about your success or to ask for help.
