MsgBox problem with longer lines which wrap under Win 7

I have multi lines msgboxes which seem to wrap longer lines (unwanted) differently e.g. under win 7 and xp.

Lines of about 64 and 70 characters in length are wrapped under win 7 but not under xp.

I want wraps at predefined points and hence I normally add the @LF to manually wrap the text where I want it but win 7 just adds its own wrap points.

The example below wraps after "... <SYS" under Win 7 but is being diplayed in full length under XP.

Has anybody experienced this and any idea?

Try @CRLF or search ExtMsgBox.au3 by Melba23.

Thanks, but same results with @LF or @CRLF ... it seems like Win 7 introduces its own line brake rule ?

Sorry I misunderstood before hand, this is correct it's the default behaviour of MsgBoxes, this is why you should look at the second option I presented to you.

While ExtMsgBox.au3 will definitely solve the problem I wonder whether someone could enlighten me how e.g Win 7 (and other OS) decides when to wrap the line at what position in standard message controls/boxes. Is it related to width in pxl only or are there also other factors involved. Many thanks!

Thanks, that was helpful and good reading.

It looks like it would indeed be the safest way to use customised message boxes (e.g such as ExtMsgBox.au3 ) if the layout is crucial. I have MsgBoxes with @TAB s and @LF s etc. tying to structure the output more nicely ... which does not look too nice if lines break at unwanted spots. Unfortunately I have used quite a few standard MsgBoxes ... a lot of rewriting.

By the way, the brackets in the second link seem to confuse forum software ?

The first link was definitely a great find to explain why it's happening. There's also a lot of good advice about programming for Windows (or any OS) when you're relying on things that are probably going to change, just because they're undocumented they're probably not staying the same. It's a good reminder of the classic "never depend on things that we don't explicitly tell you work a certain way, just because they work that way now, doesn't mean we won't change it later" warning you hear all the time from language support.
