Problems with AutoIT for IE

Recommended Posts

Hi to all!

Our problem is this: We are using AutoIT v3 with the Internet Explorer functions. We are using Virtual Machines to test them, but sometimes, when using the send function, for example 'Send("!fo")' the autoit fails and do not opens the "File -> Open" Menu... We think this is because of the amount of VM's running.

Any of you have an idea to resolve this?

Thanks to all,

Nektra

Are you sending the command to the virtual machine window in an attempt to pass the keys through the VM to internet explorer or is the script running from inside the VM and passing the command directly to IE?

You need to explain yourself man!

Try to avoid using the Send command as it's unreliable if the computer is doing something at the same time as your script is running. If you want IE to open a file or a URL then use _IENavigate instead of File/Open.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator

I believe almost everything in the tools menu of IE can be done through the registry with RegRead/RegWrite.

Hi, Nektra. What are you using for your VMs (VMware, VirtualBox, VirtualPC, etc.)? Some VMs, especially VMware Workstation, seem to halt processing of different User context applications when the window loses focus. I use both Workstation and VirtualBox for testing customer applications, and often see scripts pause or fail if the window does not have focus.

We are using Hyper-V Manager... And about the RegRead/RegWrite... Can you give me an example?

It depends on what you're trying to automate in IE as to which keys are affected. If you look in the help file there's examples of how to use the functions, you'll have to Google it for what it is you're trying to change.

We are trying to automate ALL IE functions... That's the problem

I'm not sure what you mean by this. What exactly is it that you're trying to do? Is the VM connected to Active Directory by any chance? Because you can set Group Policy for everything in IE through it, or through GPEDIT.MSC which is the local version of it if not connected to AD.

Practically everything else you want to do with, other than change its settings, can be accomplished through the _IE* functions.
