Dave70
Hello all, does anyone know how to, using AutoIT, make a USB port or serial port go high/low? Reason... I want to create some code to control either a USB cable or serial cable to control a switch or relay. Any help greatly appreciated. David
stormbreaker
Years back, I wanted to do so, and found http://kr3l.wordpress.com/2008/12/07/serial-com-port-communication-with-autoit/. TurionAltec
If you're looking for direct digital I/O as opposed to communicating to a microcontroller over RS232, I believe parallel ports have better hope. Don't know how to best interface AutoIT for that purpose though. Try looking around. You can get USB parallel ports if you need one.
jchd
Be aware that neither serial nor parallel ports will be able to drive a typical relay themselves, you will most probably need a power stage driver (transistor). If using a serial line, avoid feeding it directly to the base of a power driver (negative voltage would fry unprotected devices) ! BTW, there are many very cheap I/O boards available offering many possibilities. Look there too!
