Hint: Try the AutoIt Window Info tool to geht the control ID of the text area and then use ControlGetText.

As AlmarM suggested, use as:

$FILECONTENTS = FileRead("yourTextfile.txt")
Global $VARIABLE = StringLeft($FILECONTENTS, 1)
