Hi im having difficulties with a logfile creation.

Basically what i would like is to run this func and then for it to create a log file with the current date and time, and also the status of the command it just ran.

I have tried a few options but it just doesnt seme to work.

any ideas???

EDIT:: Or even how to output bootsect to a logfile. in windows cmd it quite simple, but i cant convert it. ;)

Firstly, Global variables should be declared outside of functions and ideally at the top of the script. If these variables aren't used anywhere else than the function then declare them as Local instead. Secondly, don't use Dim, try to use Local or Global exclusively. Thirdly, you're missing FileClose somewhere there and fourthly why not use the UDF function _FileWriteLog and just provide the filepath doing away with FileOpen/FileClose.

I have it sorted now but another problem has arisen. lol

The diskpart command is run but it doesnt execute at all. The log is written to but it says success even though it should be error.

Also as i said the command doesnt run i see the cmd dialog blink but nothing happens. i tried adding #RequireAdmin.

I'm not familiar with that command, but try...

Local $DiskPart1File = 'DiskPart /s "Q:TOOLSDiskPart1.ini"'

It doesnt work.

Basically i want diskpart to run with a script file. i then want the output to be displayed in a log file.

in batch you can do it via

diskpart /s diskpart1.ini <> Alog.txt

but i cant figure how to do it via autoit.

As per definition "cmd /k": Carries out the command specified by string but remains

If there is any output from the command you can read it from there.

Of course your script will wait until you manually close the cmd box.

Hannes had it. i changed it from "c" to "k" and i could see the error was that cmd console couldnt read the variable ($DiskPart1) so i just added the whole script and it works.

$DiskPart1 = RunWait(@ComSpec & " /c " & "C:\Windows\System32\DiskPart.exe /s Q:TOOLSDiskPart1.ini >> Q:TOOLSALog.txt")

As I said before the problem was you were using quotes around a variable. Also do you use Tidy (Ctrl+T in SciTE4AutoIt3)?
