How to test for Windows text size setting?

Recommended Posts

On Win 7, the "default" text size for GUI text can be enlarged to Medium or Large. This wreaks havoc on GUIs that have carefully positioned text — like text overlaid on a graphic. Win 7 warns of this ... so I need my script to check and compensate.

Is there an AutoIt3 feature that can test what the current setting is?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are these GUIs that you're creating? Are they also affected by this setting?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Well, if no one has an easier way, this works:

Local $var = RegRead("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager", "LastLoadedDPI")
MsgBox(4096, "Current Registry Setting is: ", $var)

It returns either 96 or 120 or 150, with 150 being "large". Reportedly, "LastLoadedDPI" works on all Windows versions. I tested it on Win 7.

It's apparent from my testing that DPI affects some applications and not others. I need to learn more about that if anyone has a suggestion for a resource of information.
