Looking for non-unique windows?

Recommended Posts

I have a project that needs to test for an appropriate window to be open. In some cases, the window can be found by looking at the unique window title. But in other cases, the window may not have a unique window title, but the text inside the window will be unique.

What are some good ways to test for this?

I see that functions like "WinWaitActive" have a text parameter. What does that do?

It searches for the text in the window specified.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Use your AutoIt Window Info tool to see if the window contains any readable text.

Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. If you can control when these windows open, you can just rename them as they open.

WinSetTitle()

Run(...)
WinSetTitle("Current Title", "", "New Title")

etc...
