How to check if the network internet connection is up or down

Recommended Posts

I have a script that monitors Network connection up and Down times, but it's somewhat inaccurate.

Every second, I ping a known URL and if the ping fails, I count that as 1 second of down time.

The problem with this method is that it depends on the responder sending a response.

What I would really want to do is monitor the actual connection for up/down status, but I haven't found any way to do this.

I tried the following code and looked up all of the parameters of the call, but I didn't find one that provides the network STATUS.

$o_NetTraffic = $o_WMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT NAME, BytesReceivedPersec, BytesSentPersec FROM" & _
    " Win32_PerfFormattedData_Tcpip_NetworkInterface" & _
    " WHERE Name LIKE '%" & $AdapterStr & "%'", "WQL", 0)
MsgBox(0,"",$o_NetTraffic.Count ;displays amount of elements in returned object.

Hello AndyS01

maybe this from guinness

ConsoleWrite("Internet Is Connected" & " = " & _IsInternetConnected() & @CRLF) ; ( Returns "True" Or "False" )

Func _IsInternetConnected()
Local $aReturn = DllCall('connect.dll', 'long', 'IsInternetConnected')
If @error Then
Return SetError(1, 0, False)
EndIf
Return $aReturn[0] = 0
EndFunc ;==>_IsInternetConnected

or this

$connect = _GetNetworkConnect()
If $connect Then
MsgBox(64, "Connections", $connect)
Else
MsgBox(48, "Warning", "δεν υπaρχει συνδεση")
EndIf

Func _GetNetworkConnect()
Local Const $NETWORK_ALIVE_LAN = 0x1 ;net card connection
Local Const $NETWORK_ALIVE_WAN = 0x2 ;RAS (internet) connection
Local Const $NETWORK_ALIVE_AOL = 0x4 ;AOL

Local $aRet, $iResult

$aRet = DllCall("sensapi.dll", "int", "IsNetworkAlive", "int*", 0)

If BitAND($aRet[1], $NETWORK_ALIVE_LAN) Then $iResult &= "LAN connected" & @LF
If BitAND($aRet[1], $NETWORK_ALIVE_WAN) Then $iResult &= "WAN connected" & @LF
If BitAND($aRet[1], $NETWORK_ALIVE_AOL) Then $iResult &= "AOL connected" & @LF

Return $iResult
EndFunc

If you use WinAPIEx then you can find the equivalent >> _WinAPI_IsNetworkAlive OR _WinAPI_IsInternetConnected

Thanks, both of these methods worked (although the MsgBox Warning message was interesting :D )

I was too quick to ask. My Google search was not worded right. After I saw your response, I Googled your methods and got lots of interesting examples.
