Problem Using _Singleton

Recommended Posts

I have some programs that cliccking on their icon more instance of programs are opened.

I don't want this.

I want have only one instance of each programs that I want run and for this reason I have

used command "_SINGLETON" and after this command i wrote into script command "RUN"

In this mode program run only one time but there is a problem.

I can run only one program for time and not more than one. I don't understand why.

The Help Guide of AutoIT for command "_Singleton" report this:

"Enforce a design paradigm where only one instance of the script may be running"

...therefore i think that...

"Singleton" permit one instance of the program where this command are included, but why the first EXE don't permit to run the second EXE that is a different program with different compiled script?

Is not the same program, and the one NOT included the second: are 2 different programs and first script block exec of second!

I have attached a small example using windows Calc.exe & Notepad.exe

Windows can run more instances for time of calc.exe and notepad.exe but if i use

"_Singleton" i can have only one instance of "calc" or "Notepad" but it don't permit me

to open Calculator and in addiction also Notes.exe but only the first cliccked starts.

Instead, I want run contemporary all programs that i have with one instance for everyone

If i start calculator.exe ...................

------------ Script of Calculator.exe ------------

#include <Misc.au3>

If _Singleton("1", 1) = 0 Then

exit

EndIf

Run("calc.Exe")

Processwaitclose("calc.exe") ; I need that program wait to close before the script.EXE end

filedelete("D:\Documenti\*.Box")

............and also i want start Notes.exe: Notes don't start

------------ Script of Notes.exe ------------

#include <Misc.au3>

If _Singleton("1", 1) = 0 Then

exit

EndIf

Run("Notepad.Exe")

Processwaitclose("NotePad.exe") ; I need that program wait to close before the script.EXE end

filedelete("D:\Documenti\*.Bck")

filedelete("D:\Documenti\*.TRF")

......I must run Calculator then close it and only after (when calculator process is closed) i can open Notes.

If calculator.exe is not closed the second EXE don't run.

Where i'm wronging ?

Thanks

Because you gave both scripts the same "name" in the $sOccurance parameter, it's going to see that name and tell you it's already running. Use different strings in the _Singleton functions for both scripts.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

The first parameter of the function must be a string value that is unique to your script. Most people tend to use, for simplicity, the name of their script. You could also generate a GUID and use that or any other string that will differentiate your script from any other scripts that may be run.

Example1:

#include <Misc.au3>
If _Singleton("Notes", 1) = 0 Then
exit
EndIf
Run("Notepad.Exe")
Processwaitclose("NotePad.exe")  ; I need that program wait to close before the script.EXE end
filedelete("D:Documenti*.Bck")
filedelete("D:Documenti*.TRF")

Example2:

#include <Misc.au3>
If _Singleton("kdjhglkdjhfgl", 1) = 0 Then
exit
EndIf
Run("Notepad.Exe")
Processwaitclose("NotePad.exe")  ; I need that program wait to close before the script.EXE end
filedelete("D:Documenti*.Bck")
filedelete("D:Documenti*.TRF")

apollo13,

The advice in the help file is pretty clear, I suggest you read it again.
