JohnQSmith
FileClose() takes for input the handle of the open file, not the filename. Whenever someone says "pls" because it's shorter than "please", I say "no" because it's shorter than "yes".
BrewManNH
Also, FileClose only works with file handles (as returned by FileOpen), not file names. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. kodius
But the file has already been opened by someone else, wouldn't FileOpen imply opening the file during the scripts execution? Sorry for being dense
kodius
When I run this it opens the file again and then I have two files open Local $handle = FileOpen("SAMPLE.QBI", 0) FileClose($handle)
BrewManNH
If the file is locked by another person having it open, FileClose won't unlock it. Moderators Melba23 Posted August 2, 2012 Moderators Share Posted August 2, 2012 kodius,I am rather confused as to what you are trying to do. Opening a file with FileOpen returns a "file handle" - this is an integer value which can be used as shorthand in other File* functions. Think of them as entries in a list (with a max size of 512) - you get the first available space. Look at this script to see what I mean: ; Open a file $iFile_Handle_1 = FileOpen(@ScriptFullPath, 0) ; We get 1 as the handle ConsoleWrite("Handle 1 = " & $iFile_Handle_1 & @CRLF) ; Open another file $iFile_Handle_2 = FileOpen(@ScriptFullPath, 0) ; And we get 2 as a handle ConsoleWrite("Handle 2 = " & $iFile_Handle_2 & @CRLF) ; Now close the second file FileClose($iFile_Handle_2) ; And open a third $iFile_Handle_3 = FileOpen(@ScriptFullPath, 0) ; And we get 2 again as there was only one open ConsoleWrite("Handle 3 = " & $iFile_Handle_3 & @CRLF) ; Now close the first file - remember its handle was 1 FileClose($iFile_Handle_1) ; And open a fourth $iFile_Handle_4 = FileOpen(@ScriptFullPath, 0) ; And we get 1 as there is now a gap in the handle table at position 1 ConsoleWrite("Handle 4 = " & $iFile_Handle_4 & @CRLF) ; And we close the 2 open files FileClose($iFile_Handle_3) FileClose($iFile_Handle_4)Does that help clear up any confusion? Please ask if it does not. GEOSoft
I'm thinking that this has nothing at all to do with the AutoIt file functions. I've had a feeling from the beginning that the OP has a file open in another app and wants FileClose() to close that file for him (or perhaps close the other app?). Won't happen.
