just want to double check

Recommended Posts

So i have a new idea of a script to help my aging mother automate simple tasks that she has trouble with, knowing almost nothing about a computer. in general a gui with buttons for her to: check her facebook, log in/out of her e-mail, even as simple as open her "my pictures" folder etc. (the fact that the computer she is useing, is a dinosuar and can cause her frustraition even if shes doing it correctly, doesnt help) so by taking out the click and wait aspect might make her more willing to get on the computer at all.

i guess my main question is, does any of this sound like it would breach forum rules? (i dont think so but it doesent hurt to double check before i ask a question that could get an unwanted response)

normally i would be on the side of "teach a man to fish..." however i will be moving soon and wont be able to help her except via phone (which wont help her at all essentially).

eazy420,

Did you read the Forum Rules for check for yourself before posting? ;)

I would start with the design of the GUI (something with big buttons and large text - some kind of "metro" design maybe).

Then - as a starter - add the task you think your mother will like most (pictures of her children, grand children etc.) and if she likes it, go on with the next task ....

As you now have thoroughly read the forum rules, you will notice that any kind of auto login will break the rules.

thanks for the insights. well i guess im on my own with the e-mail/facebook.

however, i do have a couple web shortcuts on her desktop that bring her to the login screen and let the browser enter the username/pass.

can i at least make a button to use thoes shortcuts? or at least bring her to that page and let the browser take it from there?

forgive the "chatty cathy" ammount of questions here, i just want to be absolutely sure where it becomes a violation, so i can stop before i get there. many forums only give one strike, and this forum is almost as invaluable as the helpfile, thanks to all of your time and effort, and most of all your patience with a newbie to coding like myself

Creating a button to run your shortcuts is fine.

Rule violation begins when you try to fill a login form with user/password and click the "login" button.
